AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands – VanMoof’s first television commercial has been banned from French TV because it is said to create a ‘climate of fear’. In the commercial VanMoof reflects on the rat race of busy car traffic of the past and invites people to consider other urban transport modes for a sustainable future.

The Autorité de Régulation Professionnelle de la Publicité (ARPP), a self-regulatory organisation supported by the private sector, informed VanMoof about the ban. According to the ARPP, “certain images shown in the reflections give the automotive industry a bad name […] while creating a climate of anxiety.” Remarkably, the ARPP has rejected one of the first bicycle advertisements on French TV, despite a recent promise to strengthen sustainability aspects of their policies.
