Organic/Resin Pads
Organic/Resin pads are made up of fibers and organic material that are bonded together with resin.

Pros:
-Quieter
-Shorter break-in period
-More initial bite
-Prevent heat buildup
-Pushes heat back into the rotor

Cons:
-Wear quicker
-Not as good in wet/muddy conditions

These pads are for lighter weight riders, and riding where lots of brakes are not required, like cross country, and riding in flatter areas.

Semi-metal Pads
Most of the best bits of sintered and organic compounds. They’re basically organic pads with sintered stuff added to them.

Pros:
Good ultimate top-end power.
Good bite feel and modulation.
Good durability.

Cons:
Can glaze over.
Not all semi-metal compounds are the same ie. different brands will have different sintered-to-organic mix ratios.
Usually a bit more expensive.

Sintered Pads
Sintered pads are made up of hardened metallic ingredients, which are bound together with pressure and temperature.

Pros:
-fade at a higher temperature than resin pads
-better performance in wet conditions
-last longer

Cons:
-louder
-longer break-in time
-not as much initial bite
-heat is conducted through the caliper, not the rotor

These pads will be better if you are a heavier rider. These pads are recommended for riding in wet, muddy, or dusty conditions.

A lot of experienced riders run a sintered pad in the rear brake and an organic pad up front.
If you want an easy life and only want to buy (and carry) one sort of pad, then go for semi-metal pads. Tempting as sintered pads are – due to their durability – the reality is that they lack power up front and take far too long to bed in on the trail.

ORGANIC for Commuter & city
• Suitable for commuter & city use
• Good performance at low temps
• Good pad life
• Low rotor wear
• Extremely quiet

SEMI METAL for XC & trail
• Suitable for cross-country & trail
• All-round performance
• Good performance at high or low temps
• Great pad life
• Quieter than sintered pads

SINTERED for Downhill high temp
• Suitable for downhill racing
• Excellent in wet & muddy conditions
• Superior performance at high temps
• Virtually unaffected by rain or snow
• Exceptional pad life
